LOST Challenge of the Week: “Recon”

15 03 2010

Hey everyone, I’m back again with yet another challenge of the week!  I was tempted to do something a little different this week, and ask you to analyze the flash-sideways with me in more detail.  But after giving it some more thought, I came to the conclusion that it might be better to have a separate post on that, and create a discussion-type entry.

Instead, as we approach the mid-point of the season (can you believe that we’re halfway through after next week’s episode?), we’ll stick with tried-an-true one more time.  So, here’s your challenge:

What is Locke/Smokey going to have Sawyer try to do in this episode?  And if you’re going to use the episode title as a springboard, then try to be more specific…

Best of luck if you throw an answer out there!  Otherwise, here’s hoping we get a great episode that keeps the momentum going!

Nice flash-sideways twist! Miles and Sawyer are “security” partners in the 70’s DI- why not LA detectives? Nice work. It was only a matter of time before he’d bump into Kate. Next will be bumping into Locke and and his father. Charlotte re-appears and then exits. As for the island, Sawyer and Kate have not been turned yet but Nutty Claire and Sayid clearly have been bent. The Little House reference was interesting too. “Watership Down” made a reappearance. I don’t know if this episode was more revealing than it was transitional. The teaser to next week was interesting. Richard apparently spills it- and perhaps it’s not reinforcing Jacob’s role as the “good guy”.

Sawyer playing both sides against each other is brilliant. He can’t really win by picking a side, so take them both. Pass the tests as they come to him, try to save Kate, get off the island. His goals seem clear.

I’ve noticed that Jack is growing the hair in the island timeline. I have no idea if that’s significant or not- but five plus years of the crew-cut to dump it? It just seems that Jack is headed for a more metaphysical end- good or bad. Is his appearance is changing along with his attitude? He’s no longer the “type A” Mr. Fixit he used to be.

All in all, another fun episode.
